SALT LAKE CITY -- Lewis-Clark State quickly
erased an 11-point first-half deficit and coasted to its third victory of
the infant men's basketball season, downing Point Loma Nazarene 76-64 on
Thursday in the opening round of a tournament at Westminster College.
The Warriors shot an even 50 percent from the field and
completely dominated the boards to remain unbeaten.
L-C trailed 27-16 with about 6 1/2 minutes remaining in
the first half, "and then we played pretty good the rest of the way," L-C
coach George Pfeifer said. We started out pretty hesitant, but once we got
things going we took care of business."
L-C, which led 35-34 at halftime, limited Point Loma to
41-percent field goal accuracy in the second half. The Warriors outrebounded
Point Loma 34-21, holding the Sea Lions to three offensive boards.
Jared Tikker, who according to Pfeifer enjoyed his finest
game in a Warrior uniform, had 17 points on 7-for-8 shooting. Danny Allen
and Skyler Wilson had 15 points apiece, with Wilson netting 4-of-7 3-point
attempts.
Potlatch's Nick Nicholson, Point Loma's primary shooting
threat, hit a 3-pointer moments into the game, but didn't score again.
The Warriors will play Concordia, Ore., the NAIA Division
II runnerup last season, today at 2 p.m. PST.
