HELENA, Mont. -- Following a first
half that ended with the score tied,
Carroll surged by Lewis-Clark State
for a 74-63 win on Thursday in the
Frontier Conference opener for both
men's basketball teams.
The Saints, ranked seventh in the
NAIA, connected on 12 of 21 floor
shots (57.1 percent) in the second
half.
"We had some offensive
possessions in the second half where
we turned the ball over," LCSC coach
Tim Walker said. "Too many to beat a
good team on the road."
The game was knotted at 53 with
eight minutes to go. Carroll then
carved out a lead, and used solid
free-throw shooting down the stretch
to hold off the 17th-ranked
Warriors.
Shooting guard Eric Durrett led
L-C with 17 points while Keith
Scarbrough chipped in 12. Jamal
Harris pulled in 11 rebounds.
The Saints' Travis Williams led
all scorers with 18 points, Jeff
Hays scored 15 and Kurt Paulson
contributed 11.
Walker joined his Warriors on
Wednesday in Helena. He had spent
the week in Montana following the
death of his father, Al Walker, last
Thursday.
"The kids played really hard, and
(assistant) coaches (Rick) Dessing
and (Pete) Van Mullem put together a
great game plan," Walker said. "It's
just tough to win on the road in the
Frontier Conference."
Carroll's Chris Kaschmitter, a
redshirt freshman from Grangeville,
grabbed one rebound and missed his
only shot attempt in 13 minutes of
play.
