Warrior Women Face Tough Schedule for 2004-2005
Lewiston, ID- The Lewis-Clark State Women’s Basketball team recently announced their upcoming schedule for the 2004-2005 season. The schedule consists of 17 home games, 13 away games, and one exhibition contest.
The non-conference schedule includes road games against three NCAA Division I foes, Gonzaga University (exhibition game), Idaho State University, and Eastern Washington University. Gonzaga University and Idaho State University both qualified for last year’s National Invitational Tournament (NIT), finishing the season with 18 and 20 wins respectively.
Additional non-conference games with NCAA Division II Northwest Nazarene University and NCAA Division III powers, Pacific Lutheran University and Whitman College, round out a tough non-conference schedule. Pacific Lutheran University (18-6 last season) and Whitman College (19-6, Co-NWC Champion) compete in the Northwest Collegiate Conference.
The Warriors will host two tournaments, the Staples Classic and the AmericanWest Bank Tournament. The Staples Classic will be held on November 19th and 20th and will feature Concordia University (OR), Pacific Lutheran University, Montana Tech, and Lewis-Clark State College. The AmericanWest Bank Tournament will tip off on December 10th and 11th, with a field that includes Whitman College, William Jessup University, Carroll College, and Lewis-Clark State College.
The Warriors open their season at home (October 29-30) against Canada’s University of Fraser Valley and two weeks later (November 12-13) the LCSC women will do battle with a tough Oregon Tech team which features Cascade Conference Player of the Year, Nikki McElligott. Both teams will be in town for back to back games.
The Frontier Conference schedule will kick off on January 6th against Carroll College. The conference opener is tentatively scheduled to be played in the new Activity Center at Lewis-Clark State College. The new fifteen million dollar multipurpose facility will seat approximately 3,500 fans.
The 2004-2005 schedule might be the toughest in the history of the program. With a non-conference schedule that includes six games against successful NCAA programs, the Warriors will be tested early and often. “We have a non-conference schedule that is really going to test our toughness and our courage,” said head coach Brian Orr. “I am trusting that the competitive spirit of this team is going to be pretty durable. If we can meet the challenges of our early schedule and finish with our collective-ego intact, we’ll definitely be prepared for our league games.”
