Warriors fold in Second Half to Trevecca Nazarene
3-17-06
A scoring slump during the final eight minutes of the first half spelled doom for the Lewis-Clark State College women's basketball team on Friday.

The Warriors saw their season come to an end with a 70-54 loss to Trevecca Nazarene University in the second round of the NAIA national tournament at Jackson, Tenn.

LCSC led 19-18 with 8:23 left in the first half, but only scored three more points before halftime. Trevecca Nazarene of Nashville, Tenn., used a run of 14 straight points and jumped out to a 36-21 lead at intermission.

The Warriors could get no closer than 10 points in the second half.

LCSC, which finishes the season at 26-7, hit just 23-of-69 shots from the field, for 33 percent, including only 2-of-18 from the 3-point line, 11 percent.

The Warriors also had their hands full trying to stop Trevecca Nazarene's 6-foot-5 center Jackie Weaver, who scored a team-high 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field. Weaver also blocked seven shots and had eight rebounds.

LCSC junior Andrea Morrison continued her strong play at the national tournament with a game-high 22 points and 11 rebounds. Ashley Baker added 13 points and two rebounds before fouling out.

Cami Kalbfleish played her final game in a Warrior uniform and finished with five points and two rebounds.

LCSC's outside shooting never got going as the five guards on the team combined for a 4-fot-21 effort. Morrison and Baker were a combined 16-of-33 from the field, while the rest of the Warrior squad was 7-of-36.

Trevecca Nazarene held a 45-40 rebounding edge and also forced the Warriors into 20 turnovers. Trevecca Nazarene also hit 20-of-26 free throws, while LCSC was 6-of-11.

Trevecca Nazarene, 31-4 overall, takes on Lubbock Christian of Texas, 21-11, in the Elite Eight on Saturday.
