Fulbright boosted
the Lewis-Clark
State women to a
gratifying 95-90 win
over the 12th-ranked
team in the NAIA,
Azusa Pacific, on
Friday night in the
Cougar Classic.
Baker, a 6-foot-3
junior post, scored
34 points, while
Fulbright, a
sophomore guard,
knocked in 23 --
both high-water
marks for the
players while
they've been at the
school. Baker also
pulled down 15
rebounds while
Fulbright made six
steals.
The Warriors, 5-0,
also got 12 points
and a career-best
nine assists from
senior Cami
Kalbfleisch.
"This was a great
team win," L-C coach
Brian Orr said.
"Everyone who played
contributed."
Poor free-throw
shooting from the
Warriors kept the
game in doubt in the
waning moments. They
went 10-of-21 from
the charity stripe.
Still, L-C was
plenty hot from the
field. The team shot
54 percent in the
wild, up-and-down
affair. And after
falling behind
early, the Warriors
rebounded and never
trailed again.
"When you can do
that on the road ...
" Orr said. "I
really like the
toughness of our
team."
The Warriors had
been saving money
for two years to
make this trip,
largely because they
felt like "we
weren't getting any
respect in the polls
the last couple of
years," the coach
said.
L-C, which was
ranked 26th in the
NAIA preseason poll,
will play Westmont
at 1 this afternoon
to wrap up the
tourney.
