SEATTLE --
Lewis-Clark State stayed within reach of
Seattle Pacific, but the Warriors eventually
sustained an 80-67 loss to the Falcons in
women's college basketball Saturday night.
SPU, ranked third in
the NCAA Division II, won its 64th
consecutive regular-season game at Brougham
Pavilion.
"I'm glad I didn't
know that going in," L-C coach Brian Orr
joked. "I thought we had a chance."
The Warriors, 6-2,
dropped into a 15-point deficit by halftime.
But they rallied throughout the first half,
and were within nine points late in the
game.
"We never gave up,"
Orr said. "Three years ago, we got down to
these guys and folded the tents. We stayed
competitive and intense this whole game."
Junior transfer
Aundrea Morrison paced L-C with 19 points
while Ashley Baker recorded 17 points and 13
rebounds. Jade Fulbright added 13 points
before fouling out.
Orr lauded the play
of point guard Katie Hart, who passed for
six assists and made three steals.
SPU's balanced
attack was fronted by Carli Grant and Autumn
Fielding, who each tossed in 14 points.
Mandy Wood logged 12 points and seven
assists.
After suffering its
first two losses of the season, both against
Division II schools, L-C will return to NAIA
play next week. The Warriors will travel to
Walla Walla to battle Whitman on Tuesday.
