Warriors to Open Against Lady Trojans
Lewiston, ID-The Lewis-Clark State College womens basketball team received the fifth seed in the upcoming NAIA Womens Basketball National Championship Tournament and will open play against Trevecca Nazarene University on Wednesday, March 14th, at 4:15 PM PST, at Oman Arena, in Jackson, TN.
Trevecca Nazarene (19-12), based in Nashville, TN, is a member of the TranSouth Athletic Conference. The Lady Trojans finished the conference season with an 11-3 mark and a second-place tie with Freed-Hardeman, behind regular season champion, Union University.
Trevecca Nazarenes head coach is no stranger to Lewis-Clark State. Julie van Beek is a Northwest Nazarene University graduate and is in her fifth season as head coach at TNU. She served as an assistant for four years at Southern Nazarene University, which is a common opponent for both teams. LCSC lost to Southern Nazarene, 82-61, in Plainview, TX, while Trevecca lost to SNU, 87-66, at SNU.
Sophomore guard Jennifer Wilson leads the team in scoring, averaging 18.2 ppg. Senior center Molly Schoenberg is second in scoring with a 14.2 average and is second on the team in rebounding with a 6.3 per-game mark. Sophomore forward Charity Williams, an NCAA Division I transfer from Liberty University, leads the team with 7.2 rebounds per game. Junior guard Jamie Mills was tallied 126 assists this year.
Trevecca Nazarene made it to the National Tournament, last year, in only its fourth year of existence. The team won their first round game before falling in the second round to second-seeded Auburn-Montgomery, 61-46.
