Lewis-Clark State Womens Basketball is #3 in NAIA Preseason Poll
"We have a lot of expectations to live up to this year," said head coach Mike Divilbiss. "Picking up two first-place votes means that people know how we played at the National Tournament last year, and who we have returning this year."
Lewis-Clark State finished last year at 28-2 and made it to the NAIA Elite Eight and went through the entire regular season undefeated. The Warriors return two starters who all averaged double-figures in points. Frontier Conference Most Valuable Player, Brianne Kottwitz (Bozeman, MT), returns after leading the team in scoring, 14.3 points-per-game, and assists, 5.8 per game. Alyssa Erickson (Wilbur, WA) averaged 12.1 ppg as a freshman.
Lewis-Clark State opens the season Thursday, November 9th, at Western Baptist College, in a 5:15 pm start. The Warriors open the home season on Friday, December 1st, with a first-round match-up against Albertson College, in the Banner Bank/Howard Johnsons Tournament. The game is scheduled to start at 8:00 pm.
The Warriors will open the Plainview Queens Classic with the host team, Wayland Baptist University, ranked #12, on Thursday, November 23rd. Also in the tournament is fourth-ranked Southern Nazarene (OK) University. Western Montana, #14, is the only other ranked team from the Frontier Conference.
"I was disappointed in Western Montanas ranking," said Divilbiss. "I had them in the top-eight. There is room for some other teams in our conference in the top-25. I am excited for the season to start."
