Plainview Queens Classic Announces Tournament Bracket
The College Division brings in four teams from the NAIA and four teams from the NCAA Division II ranks. Representing the NAIA are: the host, Wayland Baptist (TX) University; Lewis-Clark State College; Southern Nazarene (OK) University; and Lubbock Christian (TX) University. Wayland Baptist, Southern Nazarene and Lubbock Christian (11-13) all are from the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Three-of-the-four teams in the NAIA field were ranked in the final NAIA Top-25 Poll. Lewis-Clark State finished #1, Southern Nazarene (24-9) finished #7 and Wayland Baptist (20-12) finished at #17. Wayland Baptist was eliminated in the Second Round of the NAIA National Tournament, by Simon Fraser, Southern Nazarene lost in the Final Four and Lewis-Clark State was ousted in the Elite Eight. Southern Nazarene tied for first in the Sooner Athletic with an 11-2 record. They tied eventual National Champion, Oklahoma City, for first. Wayland Baptist finished fourth and Lubbock Christain wound up sixth. Lewis-Clark State rolled to the Frontier Conference regular-season crown.
The NCAA Division II field is comprised of: Arkansas Tech University from the Gulf South Conference; Midwestern (TX) State University and Southwestern Oklahoma State University from the Lone Star Conference; and New Mexico Highlands University from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Arkansas Tech (24-7) was eliminated in the Second Round of the NCAA Division II South Regional held in Cleveland, MS at Delta State University. Midwestern State (8-18) finished the season in fifth-place of the South Division of the Lone Star Conference. Southwestern Oklahoma State (15-11) finished in a tie for sixth-place in the Northern Division of the Lone Star Conference. New Mexico Highlands (15-12) finished tied for first-place in the West Division of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The tournament guarantees each team to play three games. The first game, at 8:30 am (all times CST), will match Southwestern Oklahoma against New Mexico Higlands. The next game, will match Arkansas Tech against Midwestern State at 1:30 pm. The winners of those two games will advance to the winners bracket game to be played Friday, November 24th, at 4:00 pm. The losers of those two, will play in a losers bracket game, Friday, at 8:30 am.
The NAIA-half of the bracket starts Thursday, November 23rd, at 4:00 pm, as Lubbock Christian battles Southern Nazarene. At 7:30 pm, Lewis-Clark State will take on Wayland Baptist. The winners will advance to play on Friday, at 7:30 pm. The losers will play Friday, at 1:30 pm.
On Saturday, November 25th, the schedule is as follows: at 8:30 am, the two teams that
are winless will play for seventh -place. The two winners of the losers bracket
games will go head-to-head for fifth-place at 1:30 pm. The consolation game will be played
Saturday, at 4:00 pm and the championship will be held at 7:30 pm.
