Warriors Crusade Over the Fighting Saints, 78-56
LEWISTON, ID--The Lewis-Clark State College Warriors wrapped up second place in the Frontier Conference with a convincing 78-56 win over Carroll College in a NAIA women’s basketball game played Thursday night at Warrior Gymnasium.
22nd-ranked Lewis-Clark State (18-9, 8-4 Frontier Conference) was led by Shanta Coleman’s and Jessica Foot’s 16 points. Shannon Russel added 12 points, all coming on 3-point field goals, and Kyla Harris grabbed a team-high ten rebounds and also dished out five assists.
Meghan Goodheart led Carroll College (14-15, 6-6) with a game-high 18 points. Charla Ray came off of the bench to record a double-double with ten points and 11 rebounds. The Fighting Saints only shot 30.4% from the floor.
The Warriors jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game. A 20-7 run in the last five minutes of the first half gave L-C a commanding 21 point lead. A jumper by Goodheart with only 27 seconds left cut the lead to 19 going into the break.
An 18-5 run started the second half for the Warriors, capped by Foot’s 3-pointer with 14:41 left to go. Carroll College could only scrape at the point spread, finally getting it down to 18, but there was only 2:36 left in the game.
Lewis-Clark State will play host to Rocky Mountain College in another Frontier Conference tilt Saturday night in Warrior Gymnasium.
