Lady Bulldogs Down Warriors, 77-70
LEWISTON, ID--The 8th-ranked University of Montana Western Lady Bulldogs made their first eight field goals of the game and held off 24th-ranked Lewis-Clark State College, 77-70, in a Frontier Conference women’s basketball game played Thursday night, at Warrior Gymnasium.
Montana-Western (16-3, 3-0 Frontier) was led by Alison Burlingame’s team-high 17 points. Bobbi Suhr and Karly Tait each chipped in with 14 points and Jari Suhr added 13. Bobbi Suhr pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
Lewis-Clark State (11-7, 1-2) was led by Shanta Coleman’s second double-double of the season with 20 points and ten rebounds. Katarina Gabaniova added 13 points and tied the school’s career record in blocked shots, 93, with her block midway through the first half. Amy Flaig tallied 12 points in her first-ever start.
The difference in the game was in points off of turnovers. Western committed 27 turnovers, but L-C could only score 16 points. The Lady Bulldogs scored 23 points off of 19 Warrior miscues. The last time LCSC had a losing record in conference play was December 3rd, 1998, when the Warriors lost their Pacific West Conference opener to Seattle Pacific, 80-60. The last time L-C started out 1-2 in conference play was one year earlier, 1997-98 season, when L-C dropped the home Pacific Northwest Athletic Conference opener to Western Washington, before splitting on the road, winning at Evergreen and losing at St. Martin’s.
