Eight Warriors Named Academic All-Frontier Conference

LEWISTON, ID-The Lewis-Clark State College Warriors placed eight of its women’s basketball players on the 2001-02 Academic All-Frontier Conference Team released Thursday, April 11th.

Seniors Brianne Kottwitz (Bozeman, MT/Bozeman HS), Shannon Russel (Ritzville, WA), and Katarina Gabaniova (Bratislava, Slovakia/College of Southern Idaho) head up the list. Shanta Coleman (San Diego, CA/Umpqua CC), Kyla Harris (Longmont, CO/Western Nebraska CC), Amy Flaig (Missoula, MT/Sentinel HS), Jessica Foot (Karana Downs, Australia/St. Peter’s Lutheran College), and Alicia Hazlett (pronounced HAZE-lett) (Superior, MT/University of Great Falls) round out LCSC’s representatives.

Kottwitz, a Business major and three-time Academic All-Conference selection, averaged 11.4 points per game and 3.6 assists per game. Russel, a Kinesiology major, averaged 8.6 ppg and made 37.2% of her 3-point field goals. She earns her second Academic All-Conference award. Gabaniova, a Business major, is named Academic All-Conference for the second straight year after averaging a team-high 13.0 ppg and blocked a school record 53 shots.

Coleman, a Kinesiology major, averaged 10.2 ppg and a team-high 7.1 rebounds per game. Harris, also a Kinesiology major, started 31 of 32 games, and averaged 8.9 ppg and 4.8 rpg. Flaig, and Elementary Education major, averaged 4.6 ppg and 4.8 rpg, and played in 30 games after coming over from the volleyball team. Foot, a Kinesiology major, averaged 12.5 ppg and made 38.4% of her 3-pointers. Hazlett played in 30 games, averaging 1.3 ppg after transferring from the University of Great Falls.

This is the first time for Coleman, Harris, Flaig, Foot, and Hazlett to be named to the Academic All-Conference Team. Flaig was named to the 2001 Volleyball Academic All-Conference Team.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore at the college/university, maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA, and participate in at least half of the team’s contests.
