LCSC men turn up the offense to roll to 100-61
win over Fraser Valley

12-20-06

LEWISTON, Idaho – Coming off one of its best defensive performances of the year, the Lewis-Clark State College men’s basketball team cranked it up on the other end of the court Thursday night.

The Warriors produced their second highest point total of the season in rolling past University College of Fraser Valley 100-61 in a nonconference contest at the LCSC Activity Center. A night earlier, the Warriors held Fraser Valley to just 19.4 percent shooting in the second half to claim a 78-49 victory.

The win was the sixth in the last seven games for the Warriors, who improve to 9-4  overall, while the visitors from Abbottsford, British Columbia fell to 9-15 overall.

LCSC came out on fire early and grabbed a 25-10 advantage midway through the first half. The lead got up to as much as 20 before the Warriors settled for a 44-30 halftime cushion.

In the second half, LCSC hit 21of 37 shots from the field and scored 56 points to roll to the win. While LCSC made 21 shots in the final 20 minutes, Fraser Valley only attempted 25 shots during that same span and hit just 10.

The Warriors’ offensive show came in a number of ways as five players scored in double figures and seven players had between 4-6 rebounds. All 11 Warrior players collected at least one rebound, 10 had at least two points, 10 had at least one steal, and nine had at least one assist.

Freshman guard Napoleon Gordon led the team with 18 points and five assists. He hit 7-of-8 shots from the field, highlighted by a reverse dunk in the second half. Teran Lee added 15 points, four steals and four rebounds, while Mike Gordy gave the Warriors some muscle down low with 13 points and six boards. Keith Scarbrough added 12 points, all on 3-pointers, while Kevin Ochoa also had 12 points.

For the game, LCSC hit 36 of 71 shots from the field, including a sizzling 10 of 16 at the 3-point line (62.5 percent). The Warriors also collected 16 offensive rebounds.

Even with the offensive production, the Warriors still got things done at the defensive end. LCSC forced 30 turnovers, including 18 steals, and held the Cascades to just 20-of-54 shooting from the field, 37 percent.

Kyle Graves led the Cascades with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Joel Havilan had 13 points.

LCSC will resume action on Dec. 29 and 30, a Friday and Saturday, in two games with Bethany University of Santa Cruz, Calif. The Dec. 29 women’s and men’s doubleheader will be held at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., while the Dec. 30 doubleheader will be at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the LCSC Activity Center.
