Comer lights it up
to help LCSC defeat Montana
Western
1-18-08
DILLON, Mont. - Rob
Comer hit seven
3-pointers and scored a
season-high 25 points to
help the Lewis-Clark
State College men's
basketball team remain
undefeated in Frontier
Conference play with an
82-77 win over Montana
Western on Friday night.
Comer, a 6-foot-2 senior
guard, buried five
3-pointers in the first
half and also hit a pair
of free throws in the
final seconds to seal
the victory to help the
Warriors improve to 4-0
in league play and 13-5
overall with their
seventh straight win.
Comer became the sixth
Warrior to finish with
seven 3-pointers in a
game and the 10th time
it has been done. Bob
Sobotta holds the
program record with nine
3-pointers, while seven
3-pointers stands
second.
The Warriors needed
Comer's performance to
overcome foul trouble by
their post players,
including leading scorer
Mike Gordy, who finished
with a season-low seven
points, 14 under his
average. Jonathan Daly
picked up three fouls in
the first half, while
Gordy and Kasey Riley
had two each. All three
had four fouls with
roughly nine minutes
left in the game, but
Daly was the only one to
foul out.
Comer, who once made 14
3-pointers in a game
while playing at Walla
Walla Community College,
scored 17 points in the
first half to help the
Warriors to a 39-38
halftime lead. LCSC
actually scored the
first eight points of
the game, but Western
rallied to take a 24-23
lead.
The second half was more
of the same. LCSC
managed to grab a 66-56
lead, but Western cut
the margin to three
points with less than a
minute to play. Comer
hit two free throws in
the final minute and
Riley added one to
preserve the win.
Montana Western is 0-4
in league and 7-11
overall.
Guard Napoleon Gordon
added 17 points for
LCSC, while Riley
finished with 12 and
Brian Duckworth with
nine.
LCSC is back in action
on Saturday in Butte
against Montana Tech.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
