LCSC men’s
basketball adds touted high school recruit
7-17-07
LEWISTON, Idaho
– Anthony Burtley, a 6-foot-5 guard from
Lompoc High School in California, has signed
a letter-if-intent to play basketball for
the Lewis-Clark State College men’s team
this season, Warrior coach Tim Walker
announced Tuesday.
Burtley was a
McDonald’s All-American nominee this past
season after averaging 21.7 points, 11.4
rebounds, 3.0 blocks, 3.0 assists, and 3.2
steals per game. In league games, he
averaged 27.4 points and 12.7 rebounds a
contest.
He earned first
team Division III AA All-CIF honors as well
as first team All-Area and Santa Barbara
County honors and was the Los Padres League
MVP.
“Anthony has a
tremendous upside,” Walker says. “At 6-5,
he’s big for a two guard and a very good
shooter right now, and possesses the ability
to take the ball to the basket. With some
hard work, he could turn into a very
complete player. We are excited he has
chosen Lewis-Clark State to continue his
education and play basketball.”
Burtley, who
weights 195 pounds, set the Lompoc High
scoring record with 41 points in a game.
During a seven-game road trip this season,
he scored at least 30 points in six straight
games. He also has career highs of 18
rebounds, six blocked shots, eight assists,
and six steals.
Burtley is the
sixth recruit signed by the Warriors for
this season. The Warriors lost five seniors
from last year’s squad, which won both the
Frontier Conference regular season and
tournament titles and qualified for the NAIA
National Tournament. |
