Warrior men’s basketball
team signs point guard
Wallace
06-09-08
LEWISTON,
Idaho – Terrell Wallace, who
was ranked by ESPN as the
140th best high school point
guard in the nation, has
signed a letter-of-intent to
play basketball at
Lewis-Clark State College
next season, the Warrior
coaching staff has
announced.
Wallace is a 6-foot,
175-pound native of
Portland, Ore., played at
Westview High School where
the team placed fifth at
State both his sophomore and
junior seasons.
Wallace, who was offered the
opportunity to walk on at a
Pac-10 school, instead chose
LCSC because his good
friend, 6-foot-7 Greg
Shepard, also chose to play
for the Warriors next
season. Shepard also played
at Westview High his
sophomore and junior
seasons, before playing at
Sunset High in Portland this
past season.
“He’s one of my best friends
and we’ve been teammates
since about sixth grade,”
Wallace said. “And when I
came there (to Lewis-Clark
State on a recruiting
visit), I really liked it a
lot. I like the school and
the gym, and I really like
the players.”
Wallace, who also had the
opportunity to play at the
junior college level for a
school in Arizona, says he’s
happy to be headed to LCSC
where he plans to major in
Radiology and Business. He
said it was tempting to
walk-on at a Pac-10 school,
but he was told he wouldn’t
receive any money or
benefits.
“It’s a big relief to know
what I’m doing,” he said.
Wallace could also see time
at the No. 2 guard spot and
says he likes playing both
guard positions.
Last season at Westview,
Wallace averaged around 10
points, five assists, three
rebounds and two steals a
game. He earned second-team
All-Metro League honors for
the second straight season
and was named Oregon Live’s
Player of the Week twice. He
also was nominated for the
McDonald’s All America
Team.
According to ESPN.com
recruiting tracker for high
school players, Wallace was
considered one of the top
sleepers on the West Coast
this season. On the web site
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player,
it said Wallace “possesses
solid speed and quickness,
but not great. He is smooth
in transition and can finish
effectively with either
hand. He is a true point
guard that will not
overwhelm you with
athleticism, however, he
rarely forces the issue and
makes savvy decisions most
of the time. His jump shot
is solid out to the stripe
but can definitely get
better with added strength.
In the half-court set he can
run an offense effectively
and doesn't look to hunt
shots. As Wallace continues
to get stronger look for his
stock to rise as he plays
the game at a nice pace.”
LCSC is coming off a 22-10
season and won both the
Frontier Conference regular
season and tournament titles
for the second straight
season, the first time it
has been accomplished since
LCSC joined the league in
1999. The Warriors lose six
seniors from the squad,
including conference MVP
Mike Gordy.
