Warrior men’s basketball signs 6-foot-8 McIntosh

4-16-08

Tanner McIntosh, a 6-foot-8 post who earned Cascade Collegiate Conference honors for two straight seasons, will transfer to the Lewis-Clark State College and play for the Warrior men’s basketball team next season, LCSC coach Tim Walker has announced.

McIntosh played two seasons at Eastern Oregon University where in 2005-06 he started as a freshman and was the runner-up for the conference’s Freshman of the Year award. During his sophomore season, he averaged 12.5 points and 4.9 rebounds and earned honorable mention all conference honors. He did not play this past season and will be a junior eligibility-wise for LCSC.

“Tanner will be a great fit with what we do,” Walker says.  “He’s an experienced player, he’s got some length to him, and he’s skilled for a 6-foot-8 guy.  He understands how to play also.  We like his mentality and his work ethic.  We think he’ll be a good motion player because of his ability to stretch the defense and play in the post.  We’re excited he chose Lewis-Clark State.”

McIntosh was born in LaGrande, Ore., and then attended Imbler High where he was named Oregon’s Class 1A Player of the Year his senior season after earning all state honors as a sophomore and junior. He also earned first-team all-league honors in football, basketball, and baseball.

McIntosh ranks No. 23 on the Oregonian’s all-time high school scoring list in the state. He scored 1,931 points during his career at Imbler and helped his team to a 30-0 record during his senior season.

McIntosh, who describes the strength of his game being a tall player who can play on the perimeter, plans to major in Business at LCSC.

LCSC is coming off a 22-10 season and won both the Frontier Conference regular season and tournament titles for the second straight season, the first time it has been accomplished since LCSC joined the league in 1999. The Warriors lose six seniors from the squad, including conference MVP Mike Gordy.
