Cougars Top Warriors, 87-82
PULLMAN, WA--The Washington State Cougars took a 41-40 lead at the half and opened the second half on a 21-7 run en route to an 87-82 win over Lewis-Clark State College, Thursday night, at Friel Court. The game was the final exhibition game for Washington State and the season opener for Lewis-Clark State.
Jerry McNair led the Cougars with 26 points and Marcus Moore recorded a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds. Milton Riley added 14 points and eight rebounds.
The Cougars owned the boards, outrebounding the smaller Warriors, 40-30.
Sta’Fon Lawson scored a team-high 22 points for the Warriors (0-1) and grabbed seven rebounds. Jason Brazier added 19 points while Lester Bruno and Brian Meneely chipped in with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
The Warriors led for much of the first half, and led by as much as six points at one point. But for 7:58 (includes end of first half and beginning of second half), LCSC could not make a field goal, going 0-for-6 in that span, while the Cougars went 7-for-13 from the floor. Washington State led by as many as 19 and held off a furious run by LCSC, 26-12, in the final 4:38 of the game.
