BILLINGS,
Mont. – Lewis-Clark State College junior
forward Mike Gordy was named the Most
Valuable Player of the men’s Frontier
Conference Tournament last weekend to
help the Warriors dominated the two
teams, which were announced Thursday by
conference commissioner Mike Walker.
Gordy and
senior Chris Pitts of LCSC were selected
to the six-member all-tournament men’s
team, while Ashley Baker, Janeen Nelson,
and Jade Fulbright were chosen to the
women’s team.
Gordy, a
6-foot-7 transfer from the University of
Northern Colorado, led the Warrior men
to the title with three straight
victories. For the three games, he was
25-of-37 from the field, 7-of-12 at the
foul line, scored 57 points, grabbed 19
rebounds, and had five assists, one
blocked shot, and one steal.
He was
joined on the first team by Pitts, a 6-8
forward, who was 15-of-25 from the
field, 6-of-8 at the foul line, and had
36 points, 14 rebounds, three steals,
three blocked shots, and two assists in
the three games.
The women’s
all-tournament team was composed of
three players from Carroll, which edged
LCSC 71-69 in the title game, and three
Warriors.
Baker, a
6-3 senior post, recorded double-doubles
in scoring and rebounding in two of the
Warriors’ three games. She finished
17-of-27 from the field, scored 44
points, and had 25 rebounds. Nelson, a
5-9 senior guard, went 14-of-31 from the
field, including 9-of-22 at the 3-point
line, 6-of-6 at the foul line, scored 42
points, grabbed seven rebounds, and also
had five steals. Fulbright, a 5-7 junior
guard, was 10-of-30 from the field,
7-of-9 at the foul line, had 30 points,
three rebounds and four steals.
Both
Warrior teams will leave for national
tournament play on Monday. The Warrior
men will take on Northwestern Oklahoma
State University at 6 p.m., PDT, next
Thursday in Kansas City, Mo., while the
women meet Columbia College at 8:45
a.m., also next Thursday, in Jackson,
Tenn.
