Lewis-Clark State College cross
country coach Mike Collins has
announced the addition of two
freshmen runners to next year’s
squads.
Jake
Miller, a senior at Moffat County
High School in Craig, Colo., and
Kelsie Eggers, a senior at Deary
High School, have both signed
letters-of-intent to run for the
Warriors this fall.
Miller
is coming off a strong senior year
in cross country. He finished
eighth at the state championship in
the 4A classification, the second
largest in Colorado.
“He has
run in the low 16-minute range for 5
kilometers, but what you have to
realize that these times are all at
elevation, so times that already
look good look even better,” Collins
says. “He has earned all-conference
in cross country three times and an
honorable mention for all-state for
both cross country and academics.
He is very committed to his running
and we are looking forward to having
him on the team this fall.”
Eggers
has been a standout athlete at Deary.
She holds the school record in both
the 1,600 and 3,200, and was a
three-time MVP and two-time captain
in basketball, and an MVP and a
two-time captain in volleyball. She
also was busy with school
activities, serving as the president
of the Business Professionals
Association, senior class secretary,
and Homecoming Queen this past
year.
“We are
excited to have her with the
program,” Collins says. “She has
been actively involved in many
different activities in high school
and has never really focused on her
running year round, so once we see
that happen I think she could be a
very big surprise to many.
Obviously a well rounded young lady
and we are looking forward to all
that she will bring to the team.”
