LCSC signs
cross country runner Huey from
Borah High
3-22-07
Sean Huey, a
standout runner for Borah High School in
Boise, has signed a national letter of
intent to run for the Lewis-Clark State
College cross country team, Warrior coach
Mike Collins announced Wednesday.
Huey has an
impressive running resume. He finished fifth
in the Idaho State Class 5A Cross Country
meet in Lewiston last fall, which helped
Borah place third as a team. Last year he
finished third in the USATF Junior Olympic
National Championships, ninth in the Rocky
Mountain Cross Country Borderclash, and No.
23 in the Footlocker West Seeded Race.
During
nine-year cross country career, he has won
nine USATF All-American awards, helped Borah
place third or better at four state meets,
and was a member of the sixth-place team at
the NIKE Team National meet.
“Sean comes
into the program as one of the most heralded
high school recruits we have ever signed,”
Collins says. “His running resume is quite
extensive and I believe he is probably one
of the top four or five guys in the state
this year, and this is going to be a good
year for high school boys distance runners
in Idaho.”
Huey served as
team captain for the Lions’ cross country
team the past two seasons. He also has a
grade point average of better than 3.25, is
a member of Junior National Honor Society
and Who’s Who for Student-Athletes, and is
an Eagle Scout.
“It’s pretty
obvious that Sean is an outstanding,
outgoing young man,” Collins says. “We are
fortunate that he has chosen to become a
part of our running family her at LCSC.
Once the running circle talk started that
Sean was coming here I had a couple of other
coaches call that were also recruiting Sean
in order to confirm his signing and their
comments were always the same, outstanding
runner and a ‘workhorse.’"
Huey says he
decided on LCSC because, like his parents,
he wanted to attend a college that had
smaller class sizes and more access to
professors. He also noted the quality of
education at LCSC because it has been rated
the top comprehensive bachelor’s
degree-seeking public college in the West by
US News & World Report.
“I have no
doubt that a young man as diverse,
energetic, hardworking and motivated as Sean
will be successful here at Lewis-Clark State
and represent the school and the program
well,” Collins says. “We have a team
returning that was ranked as high as No. 8
in the country last year. We only lose one
of our top five runners to graduation, and I
think Sean is going to have the ability to
step in very nicely and be a key contributor
to some of our goals for next year including
winning a regional title and finishing in
the top 10 in the country.” |
