LCSC volleyball team sweeps
Montana State-Northern

10-27-06

LEWISTON, Idaho – Sophomore Julie Maciboba and freshman Kelly Scott led a hard-hitting attack to help the Lewis-Clark State College women’s volleyball team defeat Montana State University-Northern 30-19, 31-329, 30-19 in a Frontier Conference match at the LCSC Activity Center on Friday.

Maciboba and Scott collected 13 kills apiece as the Warriors defeated the Skylights for the second time this season and left them tied with identical 4-7 conference records. LCSC improves to 7-15 overall, while MSU-Northern falls to 5-12.

“Julie and Kelly just played exceptional tonight,” LCSC coach Erin Mellinger said. “Lisa (LCSC setter Lisa Davis) seemed to really have a connection with them tonight.”

Maciboba also had three of LCSC’s nine service aces, along with 10 digs and two block assists. Scott, who had a match-high .385 hitting percentage, also added two blocks at the net.

“We played with confidence,” Mellinger said. “Even though we’ve played some great matches of late, tonight had a different feeling. We played with a lot of confidence. When we play like that, we can play with every team on our schedule.”

Freshman Dana Christiansen added eight kills for the Warriors, while Brittney Kubik had five along with two service aces and four blocks. Lindsay Scott added 14 digs.

Carlee Hoff and Jody Berglund led MSU-Northern with nine kills apiece.

The Warriors rolled early as they grabbed leads of 7-2, 14-6 and 21-11 in the first game. MSU-Northern cut it to seven, but LCSC scored six of the last eight points to close out the game.

The second game was tight with the lead exchanging hands on several occasions. Both teams led by four at one point, including LCSC at 25-21, but the Skylights rallied to tie it at 29-29. LCSC scored the final two points for the win.

In the third game, MSU-Northern was tough early and led 14-13 before LCSC ran off six straight points behind the serving of Julie Nebeker. The Warriors eventually scored eight of the final 11 points to end the match.

LCSC will be back in action Saturday at 2 p.m. in its final home match of the season against the University of Great Falls, which is tied with Westminster for first place in the conference. The Warriors will honor their two seniors, Nebeker and Dawn Ingham during the match.
