The Lewis-Clark State College women’s
basketball team kicked off its season in
impressive fashion by winning all three
of its games at the Westminster
Tournament in Salt Lake City.
The Warriors, ranked No. 10 in the NAIA
preseason poll, defeated Berry College
of Georgia 91-65, Concordia of Irvine
72-57 and Albertson College 110-68 to
stand 3-0 on the season.
Berry, which was ranked No. 34 in the
preseason poll, trailed 55-26 at
halftime as the Warriors rolled early.
Katie Hart had 17 points to pace LCSC,
while Katya Yancheva added 16 points.
The Warriors hit 36-of-71 shots from the
field, including 12 3-pointers.
Against Concordia, the Warriors used a
balanced attack as Mandy Troutt and
Ashley Baker had 12 points apiece while
Janeen Nelson added 11. The Warriors
again shot well from the field,
connecting on 26 of 54 attempts.
In
Saturday’s contest, the Warriors put up
big numbers as the 110 points allowed by
Albertson was the most in program
history. Because of statistical
problems at the tournament site, no
cumulative statistics were released
following the game.
The Warriors are back in action this
week as they play host to the Staples
Classic at the LCSC Activity Center.
LCSC will meet Evergreen College at 6
p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17, following a
contest between Eastern Oregon at
Westminster at 4 p.m. On Saturday,
Westminster plays Evergreen State at 2
p.m., followed by LCSC and Eastern
Oregon at 4 p.m.
