Cross Country Polls
9-14-06

The Lewis-Clark State college women’s cross country team climbed four spots in this week’s NAIA national poll, while the men fell three spots.

The women are now ranked No. 14 after their impressive season-opening victory in an invitational at Nampa last week. The men are now at No. 21.

“It is good to see both teams still in the picture of the NAIA’s top 25 rankings,” LCSC coach Mike Collins said.  Even though the men dropped three spots to No. 21, we feel pretty good about where we are at right now.  We had a little bump in the road last week, but we really weren’t focusing on that meet anyway.  We have starred three meets this season, not including nationals where we want to run well.  The first of these is this next weekend and we know if we can run well there, last week will be long forgotten.

The women ran very well a week ago, so not to surprising to see us go up.  Right now we are just trying to run as well as possible to stay in the hunt for a national berth.  This weekend (at an invitational in Seattle) will tell a lot about the women as we will see the No. 1 team in the country (Simon Fraser) along with No. 3 British Columbia.  I know the women are excited about it.  Although we will be racing the non-traditional 6K, it should be fun with a course that is expected to be wet and muddy by Saturday.”
