Despite
being idle last week, the Lewis-Clark State
College men’s program moved up one spot in
the latest NAIA poll, which was released
Wednesday.
The
Warriors climbed to a program-best No. 8
ranking, while the women, who were also idle
last week, gained more votes but remained at
No. 13 overall.
“Heck,
with movements like that maybe we should
just take the rest of the year off and by
the time it is over maybe we will be No. 1,”
LCSC coach Mike Collins joked. “In all
seriousness, the changes are more likely due
to other teams that did run last week and
the raters are moving them up and down based
on their performances and it just happened
to affect us.
“It’s
nice to see the men at No. 8, highest
ranking in men’s
team history, but I still feel like we need
to prove that we have earned it.”
The
Warriors will be in Salem, Ore., on Saturday
to take part in the Willamette
Invitational.
“In
both races there will be a large number of
ranked NAIA schools, including the new No. 1
on the men’s side (Concordia of California),
as well as a lot of ranked schools from
other divisions (NCAA DII and DIII),”
Collins said. |
