Warriors fall to unbeaten
Rocky Mountain in volleyball

9-16-06

LEWISTON – Undefeated Rocky Mountain College made the plays when needed in the first game and then continued to roll and defeat Lewis-Clark State College 30-26, 30-20, 30-16 in a Frontier Conference volleyball match at the LCSC Activity Center on Saturday afternoon.

Rocky Mountain, 10-0 overall and 2-0 in league play, led for most of the first game but LCSC battled back and tied the contest at 20, and then again at 24. Rocky Mountain then scored the next four points, but the Warriors rallied again and cut it to 28-26, before the Bears scored the final two points to claim the opening game.

Much like the night before, the first game loss took most of the wind out of LCSC’s sail. The Warriors suffered a tough first-game loss in falling to Carroll College on Friday night in three straight games. As in those games, the Warriors fell behind early in the second and third games, and attempted to rally, but fell short.

In Saturday’s second game, LCSC trailed 10-6, but Rocky turned it into an n 18-9 lead. LCSC cut the margin to seven, but Rocky moved the lead back to 10 at 24-14 and claimed the win.

In the third game, Rocky was able to use a 12-3 run for an 18-6 lead. LCSC cut it to 20-12, but Rocky answered with a 6-2 run to put the match away.

The loss drops LCSC to 2-9 overall and 0-2 in league play.

Four Warriors – Brittney Kubik, Julie Maciboba, Kelly Scott and Dana Christiansen – finished with five kills apiece. Lisa Davis added 13 assists and seven digs, while Mindy Meyer had 10 assists and eight digs. Lindsay Scott added a game-high 19 digs, while Kubik added three service aces and three blocks.

Sara Schuepback had 17 kills and nine digs to lead Rocky.

The Warriors resume Frontier Conference action next Saturday when they play host to Montana Tech at 2 p.m. in the Activity Center.
