VOLLEYBALL:
The
Warriors will kick off Frontier
Conference play at home this week by
taking on Carroll College and Rocky
Mountain College at the Activity Center.
In the
pre-determined format, LCSC will play
the Nos. 1 and 2 ranked teams in the
NAIA’s preseason poll. The Warriors will
play four matches in the tournament, two
on each day. Carroll was picked to
finish second in the conference’s
preseason poll, while Rocky Mountain was
selected fifth.
The
contests will provide a stiff challenge
for the Warriors because Rocky Mountain
(8-0) and Carroll (7-3) have the best
records in the conference thus far.
Rocky Mountain went 4-0 in the Holiday
Inn Challenge at Lewiston in late
August.
LCSC
stands at 2-7 overall and enters play
fairly fresh. The Warriors were off last
weekend after going on perhaps the
toughest road trip in program history,
taking on three nationally ranked teams
in a California tournament, including
the top two NAIA teams in the country.
GOLF:
The
Warriors are currently involved in their
season opening tournament at Butte,
Mont., which Montana Tech is serving as
the host. The 72-hole tournament runs
through Tuesday.
Both the
men’s and women’s teams will head back
to Montana next Sunday-Tuesday as well
for the Carroll College Tournament in
Helena.
Both
tournaments count in the Frontier
Conference overall standings to
determine the conference champion. The
Frontier Conference plays a fall and
spring schedule because most Montana
golf courses can’t open until late
spring because of the weather.
TENNIS:
Although
the Warriors don’t open the season until
2007, plenty of things are happening in
the program.
One of the
team’s major fundraisers is the 18th
annual Fazzari’s Tennis Championships,
which will take place this weekend at
the Clarkston High and LCSC Tennis
Center courts. There are events for men,
women and juniors at all levels of play
in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

The
Warrior Tennis Club is looking for

Thursdays at 8-10 p.m. at the indoor
tennis courts. There is no fee and
players from all levels of play are
welcome. For more information on the
Tennis Club, contact the LCSC Tennis
Office at 792-2309 or e-mail tennis
coach Kai Fong at

FALL
LUNCHEON:
The
Warrior Athletic Association will hold
its annual Fall Sports Lunch on Sept. 18
at noon at the Williams Conference
Center on the LCSC campus.
The lunch, which is sponsored by
FirstBank, will feature coaches and
athletes from the women’s volleyball
team and the men’s and women’s cross
country teams. Volleyball coach Erin
Mellinger and cross country coach Mike
Collins will talk about their seasons.
The cost of the lunch is $12 and
reservations are recommended.
Reservations can be made by calling the
LCSC Athletic Development Office at
792-2692 or by e-mailing Cindi Durgan at
cfdurgan@lcsc.edu.
