TRUCKERS WIN IN BIG WAY Trucker Offense Scores 12 Runs in Finale Aug. 23, 2003 LEWISTON, Idaho – The Paffile Truckers ended a two-game losing streak Saturday when they erupted for 12 runs to win 12-4 in the finale of a three-game exhibition vs. Chinese Taipei at Harris Field. Much like the first two games of the series the visitors jumped out to an early lead when second baseman Shih Chih-Wei hit a sacrifice fly that drove in Yu Shien-Ming. Chinese Taipei added another run in the top of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth with the visitors still up two runs, the much maligned Trucker offense from the first two games came alive with a fury. The Truckers scored five runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-2 lead. With the bases loaded Taiwanese shortstop Chen Yung-Chi mishandled a sharply hit grounded which allowed Ryan Stevenson to score from third to give the Truckers their first run of the series. The Truckers newfound offense continued in the bottom of the fifth when the team added seven runs to take a 12-4 lead. Center fielder Ryan Stevenson led off the inning with a double and scored when Miguel Padilla singled two batters later. In the next at-bat, Trucker second baseman Anthony Slagle laid down a perfect bunt base hit which scored Neil Litchfield from second. Unlike the first two games of this series, Chinese Taipei pitching struggled, giving up 17 hits and six walks to the home team. Taiwanese starter Tu Chang-Wei went 3.0 innings, giving up five hits and striking out two batters. Seven Trucker pitchers combined to allow only eight hits to Chinese Taipei.
