PORTLAND -- One night after she was limited to four points and four shot
attempts, sophomore post Ashley Baker dropped 27 points in the Lewis-Clark
State women's 69-63 nonconference victory over Cascade College on Saturday.
The Warriors, who lost to Western Baptist on Friday, had to rally out of
deficits in both the first and second halves. Midway through the second
half, Cascade led 48-40.
L-C, 7-4, ripped off the next eight points to tie the game. Nikki
Haerling then bottomed out a 3-pointer with 3:52 left to put the Warriors up
for good, 56-54.
Baker went 13-for-22 from the floor and nabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
"We did a great job of getting the ball inside when it really counted,"
LCSC coach Brian Orr said. "(Baker) had a couple of big offensive rebounds
down the stretch that were just key."
The Warriors' shooting remained spotty, as they hit 23 of 66 (34.8
percent). But they went 21-for-31 from the foul line, including Haerling's
11-for-14 effort. Haerling, a junior guard, scored 21 points.
Orr also mentioned the play of reserve post Leah McCauley, who came off
the bench to score six points.
