LCSC Men Selected to Finish First, Women Third In Pre-Season Poll

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DILLON - In a pre-season poll of
Frontier Conference teams, the men’s basketball coaches selected last season’s
tournament and regular season co-champion Lewis-Clark State to win the 2004-05
league title. LCSC was followed by regular season co-champion Westminster
College, Rocky Mountain College, University of Montana-Western, Carroll College,
and MSU Northern. Rounding up the poll was Great Falls and Montana Tech.
Lewis-Clark State received seven first place votes, with Rocky receiving one.
Head coach of the Warrior men’s team, George Pfeifer, had this to say about the
pre-season picks “We seem to get this distinction a lot. I often believe this is
an evaluation pertaining more to the product from the past, as opposed to the
present. We have some quality players returning who were productive, however as
most coaches will convey when it comes to preseason polls, there are no banners
or trophies for being picked to win it at this juncture of the year.”
On the women’s side, 2003 regular season champion Carroll College was
picked to win the 2004-2005 title. Tournament champion UM-Western was picked
second, followed by Lewis-Clark State , MSU-Northern, Rocky Mountain College,
University of Great Falls, Westminster College and Montana Tech. Carroll
received four first place votes, UM-Western received three first place votes,
and Lewis-Clark State one.
Votes were 7 points for first, 6 points for
second, 5 points for third, 4 points for fourth, 3 points for fifth, 2 points
for sixth and one point for seventh. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their
own team.
