L-C knocks down 10 3-pointers in first half, rolls to 83-68 victory in first round of FCwomen's tourney

BUTTE, Mont. -- Cami Kalbfleisch buried five 3-pointers in the first half and Aundrea Morrison recorded a double-double as Lewis-Clark State trounced Great Falls 83-68 in the opening round of the Frontier Conference women's basketball tournament Wednesday at the Maroon Activity Center.

The second-seeded Warriors, 25-6, move into Friday's semifinal round where they will face the winner of today's game between No. 3 Carroll and No. 6 Rocky Mountain.

Kalbfleisch, the Warriors' only senior, opened up the scoring with a trey off a Katie Hart pass. This initiated an 3-point barrage which saw the Warriors score 30 of their 49 first-half points from behind the arc. L-C torched the nets for 43 percent, setting up the possibility of a runaway.

But the red-hot Warriors, who led 49-31 at halftime, cooled off in a hurry. Having gone ice-cold from the field, the Warriors turned to their defense and rebounding. They kept Great Falls at bay with a 48-39 advantage on the boards and by stealing the ball in the backcourt 12 times, with half those thefts coming from Jade Fulbright.

LCSC's depth ultimately wore down Great Falls, with the Warriors getting 25 points from their bench. Sophomore post Vanessa West particularly asserted herself when starter Ashley Baker took to the bench with foul trouble.

Morrison led the Warriors with 23 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Kalbfleisch with 15.
