BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- The Lewis-Clark State women stayed close until late in the first half, when Western Washington took command en route to a 72-53 victory Thursday night at Carver Gym.

WWU, the 14th-ranked club in NCAA Division II, held a 25-23 lead with 2:20 left in the first half. The Vikings then rattled off six points before halftime.

The home team also converted the first seven points of the second period, making it 38-23.

It was the Warriors' first official loss in seven games.

"It was a good test for us, now we have to find out how we handle adversity," L-C coach Brian Orr said.

LCSC post Ashley Baker managed a team-high 16 points and nine rebounds. But the 6-foot-3 junior played just 24 minutes before fouling out.

The Warriors did get 15 points and 14 boards from Aundrea Morrison while Jade Fulbright added six points and five assists.

L-C couldn't find its shooting touch, hitting just 22 of 64 shots -- including an 0-for-9 mark from 3-point range. Orr said the Warriors also had trouble getting the ball to their inside players.

The Vikings, 3-0, got 20 points from Tina Donahue and 16 from Courtney Clapp.

This trip gets no easier for the Warriors. They'll take on Seattle Pacific, the No. 2 team in NCAA Division II, on Saturday at 5 p.m.

"We didn't schedule it because it was going to be easy," Orr said. "This trip will test us, and that was the thinking behind it."
