Baker and Morrison are
too much for
Fraser Valley in 97-69 win
12-21-06
LEWISTON, Idaho – The good news for the
University College of Fraser Valley women’s
basketball team from Abbottsford, British
Columbia is that it won’t have to face
Ashley Baker again.
The bad
news for the Cascades is that they had to
face her again Thursday night.
The
Lewis-Clark State College senior post scored
a season-high 27 points and added eight
rebounds, while fellow senior Aundrea
Morrison added a double-double with 26
points and 10 board to help the Warriors
roll past Fraser Valley 97-69 in
nonconference play at the LCSC Activity
Center.
A night
earlier, Baker had 19 points and 15 rebounds
in a 73-42 win over the Cascades. For the
two games, the 6-foot-3 NAIA All-American
candidate had 46 points, 23 rebounds (10 on
offense) and hit 17 of 33 shots from the
field and 12 of 18 at the foul line.
Morrison
added to the Warriors’ solid 1-2 punch on
Thursday with 10-of-16 shooting from the
field and a 5-of-5 effort at the foul line.
In the first half alone, Baker and Morrison
scored 12 of the Warriors’ 15 baskets and
had assists on the other three. They
finished a combined 20-of-31 from the field
with 53 points and 18 rebounds.
The
Warriors, 12-1 overall, took control of the
game early and raced to a 42-25 lead. LCSC
hit a small bump to start the second half
when Fraser Valley scored the first six
points, but LCSC’s reserves, led Kim
Preston’s three 3-pointers, quickly picked
up the slack and the Warriors cruised to the
win.
Jade
Fulbright added 10 points while Preston had
nine with six rebounds and four assists.
Kathie Hart, at 5-foot-4, added nine
rebounds as LCSC held a 49-39 rebounding
edge.
Fraser
Valley, 10-10, did a better job of taking
care of the basketball Thursday with only 15
turnovers, compared to 31 the night before.
The Cascades, however, never did find their
outside touch, finishing the two games 7 of
38 from the 3-point line.
Michelle
Buhler led Fraser Valley with 21 points,
while Bridget O’Brien finished with 13
points and 11 rebounds.
LCSC
will resume action on Dec. 29 and 30, a
Friday and Saturday, in two games with
Bethany University of Santa Cruz, Calif. The
Dec. 29 women’s and men’s doubleheader will
be held at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., while the Dec.
30 doubleheader will be at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
at the LCSC Activity Center. |
