LCSC’s Morrison receives conference honor

 12-14-06

Lewis-Clark State College senior Aundrea Morrison has been honored as the Frontier Conference’s Player of the Week for women’s basketball, conference officials announced Thursday.

Morrison becomes the second Warrior to earn the honor this season. Janeen Nelson, a senior guard, earned the honor three weeks ago.

Morrison, a 6-foot forward from Hermiston, Ore., helped the Warriors improve to 10-1 on the season with two victories last weekend in the Wells Fargo Invitational. LCSC, ranked eighth in this week’s NAIA poll, defeated Simon Fraser 72-70 and George Fox 67-59 in the tournament.

Morrison averaged 20 points, six rebounds and three steals per game to claim the tournament’s MVP award. She hit 59 percent of her field goals and 50 percent of her 3-point field goals.

Also nominated Laura Keaster of the University of Great Falls, DeLayne Johnston of MSU-Northern, Jenna Sawyer of Rocky Mountain College and Katherine Sunwall of Montana Western.

On the men’s side, Alvis Dowiels, Rocky Mountain College’s 6-7 junior forward from Long Beach, Calif., earned the award. Dowiels averaged 16.5 points, seven rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. He hit 67 percent of his field goals and 83 percent of his free throws. Also nominated was Chris Pitts of Lewis-Clark State.
