LEWISTON,
Idaho – Seniors Mandy
Troutt and Jade
Fulbright (shown left)
had 16 points apiece to
lead five Lewis-Clark
State College players in
double figures scoring
as the Warriors rolled
past College of Idaho
98-63 in the final game
of the Wells Fargo
Invitational at the LCSC
Activity Center on
Saturday.
The Warriors, 10-3
overall and ranked No.
14 in the NAIA Division
I poll, aggressively
attacked the Coyotes’
full-court pressure
defense to score several
easy buckets early and
take control of the
game.
College of Idaho, 4-4
and not ranked among
NAIA Division II
schools, entered the
contest forcing nearly
30 turnovers a game, but
could force only 12
against the Warriors.
LCSC established control
early by passing over
the top of the press to
Troutt, the team’s
6-foot-2 post. Troutt
scored the Warriors’
first 10 points of the
game. She scored all 16
points in the first half
when LCSC used an 8-0
run to break a 14-14
tie. College of Idaho
cut the lead to six
twice, but another 8-0
run and then an 11-2 run
before half gave the
Warriors a comfortable
54-33 halftime lead.
The Coyotes never got
closer than 20 in the
second half.
Despite facing
full-court pressure
after both made and
missed shots, the
Warriors had no trouble
finding their balanced
attack. All 11 Warriors
scored in the game while
10 of 11 had at least
one rebound and one
assists. In all, LCSC
had 32 assists on its 37
baskets.
Fulbright, a first-team
all-Frontier Conference
pick from last season,
has three assists and
three steals and hit two
of LCSC’s eight
3-pointers in the game.
Junior guard Breianna
Gaines added 15 points,
while Lacie Titmus had
12 and Sadie Short 11.
Short also added a
game-high nine rebounds,
and also had five
assists and two steals.
Both Troutt and Short
were selected to the
all-tournament team,
along with College of
Idaho’s Denise Hill, who
finished with eight
points after scoring 19
on Friday in a setback
to Carroll College.
Josie Pugsley led
Albertson with 17
points, while Magen
Dufurrena had eight
rebounds.
For the game, LCSC was
37-of-74 from the field
for an even 50 percent,
while College of Idaho
was 25-of-68 for 36.8
percent. LCSC also had a
49-38 rebounding
advantage and forced the
Coyotes into 18
turnovers.
LCSC senior point guard
Katie Hart finished with
seven assists, four
points, and three
steals, while backup
point guard, sophomore
Madison Mendezona, also
had seven assists.
In Saturday’s opening
game, No. 10-ranked
Azusa Pacific defeated
No. 7 Carroll College
60-48. APU senior post
Abby Johnson was named
the tournament MVP and
was joined on the
all-tournament team by
teammate Kristie
Hala’ufia. Carroll’s
Jolene Fuzesy was the
final member of the
all-tournament team.
