LCSC recruit Stohr is a candidate for McDonald’s All American squad

2-13-08

Lewis-Clark State College women’s basketball recruit Jasmine Stohr has been nominated for the McDonald’s High School All American squad.

Stohr is one of 12 high school seniors in the state of Washington nominated for the national award. Ten of the 12 players on the list from Washington have signed with NCAA Division I programs, including Ashley Corral of Prairie High in Vancouver with USC and Kristi Kingma of Henry M. Jackson High in Mill Creek, who signed with the University of Washington.

Stohr is a 6-foot-1 guard/forward at La Salle, a Class B school in Union Gap, Washington, near Yakima. She has been named the Seattle Times’ Class 2B Player of the Year as both a sophomore and a junior, and .has earned first-team all-Columbia B League honors her freshman, sophomore, and junior seasons.

Last year, she averaged 12 points, five rebounds, and 3.5 steals per game and helped her team to the State 2B championship game. She was named the tournament MVP as well as being selected to the all-tournament team. She was twice named KNDO’s Player of the Week during the season.

She also helped her team to the state tournament as a sophomore where again she was named to the all-tournament team.

She is a two-time Associated Press First Team State Class 2B selection, and also participated in the All State Basketball Game as a sophomore and junior where she was the game’s MVP last year. She also is a two-time participant in the Yakima Herald Republic Media Classic.

As well as her basketball accomplishments, Stohr also is a standout soccer player. Even though her team had to play up to the Class A level, she helped La Salle to four trips to the Final Four of the 1A State Soccer finals, including three championship game appearances.

Stohr is a three-time all-state center midfielder. She was named to the all-Columbia League four times and was the league MVP as a junior and senior. She also was the Yakima Herald Republic’s Soccer Player of the Year as a junior, and served as the team’s captain this past year.

“We are extremely happy to have Jasmine joining our women’s basketball program,” LCSC coach Brian Orr says.  “She is long and athletic, she can play inside or out, and she will fit perfectly into our system.  She has excellent skills and we think she has the potential to be an impact player for us next year as a freshman.  But what really stands-out about Jasmine is her self-confidence and her fierce competitive spirit.”

Orr says the only other player he is aware of who was a McDonald’s All American candidate to later play at LCSC was Aundrea Morrison.
