balanced attack and help
the Lewis-Clark State
College women's
basketball team overcome
foul troubles to defeat
Montana Western 71-56 in
Frontier Conference play
on Friday night.
The Warriors took the
lead fairly early in the
contest and built up a
36-27 halftime lead by
scoring 17 points off of
12 Bulldogs turnovers.
In the second half, LCSC
led by as much as 16,
45-29, but the Bulldogs
went on an 11-0 run as
four LCSC starters were
on the bench with three
fouls apiece.
Short gave the Warriors
some breathing room with
a 3-pointer and then hit
another bucket to put
the Warriors up by 10.
Western never threatened
again as LCSC won its
sixth straight contest
to remain as the only
undefeated team in
conference play at 4-0.
The Warriors, ranked No.
13 in the NAIA, are 15-3
overall.
Montana Western fell to
12-6 overall and 1-3 in
league.
Despite the foul woes,
point guard Katie Hart
was the only Warrior to
foul out.
Short had a solid game
for LCSC, hitting key
buckets down the
stretch. Fulbright added
a 6-of-6 performance at
the foul line in the
final three minutes.
LCSC senior post Mandy
Trout added 14 points,
including 12 in the
second half, while Kim
Preston came off the
bench to score 11,
including nine in the
first half. In the first
half alone, LCSC's bench
outscored Montana
Western 22-12 as the
Warriors went 7-of-11
from the 3-point line,
including a 3-of-4
performance by Preston.
LCSC is back in action
on Saturday night when
it travels to Butte to
face Montana Tech at 5
p.m., Pacific time.
