Brian Orr
Head Women's Basketball Coach

rborr@lcsc.edu

Now entering his 10th year as the women’s basketball coach at Lewis-Clark State College, Brian Orr has established himself as one of the premier coaches in the Frontier Conference and NAIA, and has become one of the most accomplished basketball coaches in Warrior history.

Amassing an overall win-loss record of 229-71 (.763 win percentage), Orr has compiled a number of honors and trophies. His teams have won the Frontier Conference Tournament title three straight seasons and played in the championship game in four straight years. Between 2005-08, he earned three straight Frontier Conference Coach of the Year awards, and led his team to three straight regular-season conference championships. In the last five years, Orr has an 128-29 (.815) overall record and a 59-11 (.843) mark in the conference. Under Orr’s leadership the Warriors have qualified for the NAIA national championship eight times in the last nine years. The team has reached the round of Sweet 16 in four of the past five seasons and made it to the final eight in 2007-08.

Orr has averaged more than 25 wins per season, best in program history, and hit the 200-win milestone in one of the Warriors’ most memorable games when they defeated Westminster 79-78 in the championship game of the Frontier Conference Tournament in Salt Lake City during the 2008-09 season. Westminster had won its previous 16 games against conference opponents during the season before the Warriors were able to capture their second straight conference tournament title.  The Warriors also defeated Westminster in Salt Lake last season for the tournament title, this time in dominating fashion 80-60.

On December 10, 2005, with a victory over Warner Pacific College, Orr won his 100th contest, a milestone that was achieved faster than any previous L-C basketball coach. His teams currently have the best home court winning percentage at the school with a remarkable 127-15 (.894) record, including a 16-1 (.941) mark a year ago. In addition, Coach Orr has compiled an impressive 99-27 (.786) overall conference record, another first in the Lewis-Clark State record book. His teams have averaged 11 conference wins per season in a 14-game schedule.

Before coming to Lewiston, Orr was the top women’s assistant at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. During the 2000-01 campaign, the MSU Bobcats posted the fourth-best turnaround in NCAA Division I and finished with an 18-10 overall record and an 11-5 record in the Big Sky Conference.

Prior to his stop in Bozeman, Orr served as the first women’s basketball coach at the University of Great Falls in 15 years. Brian also served as the top assistant coach at perennial NCAA Division II power, Montana State University-Billings from 1996-98. In his three years at MSU-Billings he helped lead the Yellowjackets to a 64-22 record and three straight trips to the National Tournament. MSU-B finished the 1998-99 season at 25-6 and advanced to the “Elite Eight”, the best finish in school history.

Derek Pegram
Assistant Women's Basketball Coach

Derek Pegram begins his first season as an assistant coach in the program and is in his first year of coaching at the collegiate level.

Derek hit the ground running and has been helping coach Brian Orr in a variety of areas, including coaching the guards, recruiting and serving as the team’s strength and conditioning coach.

Derek played basketball at Seattle Community College for coach Kyle Gray and began his coaching career shortly thereafter in 2006.

In 2006-07, he served as assistant coach for the boys’ basketball team at Auburn Riverside High School in Auburn, Wash., and then spent the following two seasons as both assistant coach to the varsity and head junior varsity coach at Riverside. During all three seasons there, Riverside qualified for the district tournament. He also helped out with the girls program in both 2007-08 and 2008-09.

Derek also spent time coaching the junior varsity team at Gig Harbor High School before last season. He then joined Stan Harris, Deon Moyd, and the staff at Franklin Pierce High in Tacoma as its head junior varsity coach and was an assistant coach to the varsity, which qualified for the WIAA 3A State Tournament.

Derek also has worked as various camps in western Washington, including camps in Seattle and Tacoma. He’s also work at multiple Harlem Globetrotter camps.

“We are excited to have Derek joining our coaching staff,” LCSC coach Brian Orr said.  “He is a real student of the game, eager to learn, and his expertise in the weight room has already made a positive impact on our team.  His duties will include virtually every aspect of our program with an emphasis on recruiting, strength training, and on-court coaching.”

Derek, (24), has lived in the Seattle area most of his life. He was raised in Auburn, Wash., and attended Auburn Riverside High School where he played both basketball and tennis. While playing for coach Tom Adams his senior year, Derek captained the Ravens to their first ever playoff appearance, earning ALL-South Puget Sound League honors. He also earned four letters in tennis where he never lost a match during the regular season all four seasons.  His tennis teams never finished worse than sixth in state.

Derek also works at Gold’s Gym in Lewiston and will be attending classes at LCSC during the second semester. He is majoring in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Sports Administration/Coaching.

In August, Pegram replaced former Warrior player Janeen Nelson as the team’s assistant coach. Nelson was an assistant for one season.
