team
Region
I honors Clemente and
Kubik; Greeny is Coach
of the Year
11-19-07
Lewis-Clark State College
sophomore outside hitter
Anile Clemente and senior
middle blocker Brittany
Kubik were selected to the
12-member NAIA All-Region I
Volleyball team, while
Warrior first-year coach Jen
Greeny was chosen as the
Region’s Coach of the Year,
it was announced Monday.
The Warriors also had junior
outside hitter Cintia Alessi
and junior middle hitter
Julie Maciboba earn
honorable mention honors.
LCSC led the way with four
players receiving honors,
while the College of Idaho
and Southern Oregon had
three players each.
Greeny led the Warriors to a
remarkable season. LCSC,
which had won only 21
matches over the previous
three seasons, was picked to
finish sixth in the Frontier
Conference. The team,
however, won both the
Frontier Conference regular
season and tournament
titles, and then won the
Region I tournament last
weekend to earn the
program’s first berth to the
NAIA national tournament
since 1999. The Warriors,
25-6 overall, are the No. 9
seed in the 20-team
tournament that runs Nov.
28-Dec. 1.
Greeny is a former standout
volleyball player at
Washington State University
and came to LCSC after
coaching three seasons at
Pullman High School where
she led the volleyball team
to the program’s first state
championship.
Clemente, who is from Sao
Paolo, Brazil, leads the
Warriors in kills this
season with 320 and also is
hitting .290. The 5-foot-11
powerful hitter is also
fifth on the team in digs
with 128 and fourth in
blocks with 23.5. She was
chosen as co-Player of the
Year in the Frontier
Conference along with
Westminster senior outside
hitter Angie Johnson, who
was chosen the Region I’s
Player of the Year.
Kubik, at 6-0 and from
Wenatchee, Wash., led the
LCSC regulars with a .324
hitting percentage. She is
fourth on the team in kills
with 246, and is tops in
both solo blocks with 30 and
block assists with 127. She
has 48 digs, and, like
Clemente, holds nine service
aces.
Alessi showed off her
versatility this season as a
strained stomach muscle
forced her to play libero
for nearly half of the
season. Still, she has 261
kills, which is third on the
team, and a team-high 58
service aces. The 5-7 native
of Curitiba, Brazil also led
the team with 487 digs and
has 26 blocks, which is
third on the team.
Maciboba, who hails from
Kennewick, Wash., has 266
kills, which ranks second on
the team. She holds a .279
hitting percentage, which is
third, and is second on the
team with 53 blocks.
The voting was conducted by
the Region I coaches.
