SPOKANE - The
Lewis-Clark State
College women's
volleyball team clinched
a spot in Saturday's
championship game at the
four-team Whitworth
Invitational by rolling
past NCAA Division III
opponents Willamette and
Whitworth in round-round
play on Friday.
The Warriors opened
tourney action by
sweeping Willamette
30-16, 30-14, 30-16, and
then bounced back from
an opening-game loss to
stop Whitworth 23-30,
30-25, 30-16, 30-19.
LCSC, which still has a
round-robin match
against Frontier
Conference foe
Montana-Western at noon
Saturday, clinched a
spot in the 4 p.m. title
game based on its 2-0
record. Willamette and
Whitworth both defeated
Montana-Western on
Friday to stand 1-1, and
will meet Saturday at 10
a.m. with the winner to
face LCSC in the title
game.
The Warriors, 4-2
overall, had little
trouble in the opener as
they hit .308 as a team,
while holding Willamette
to a minus-.008 hitting
average. Cintia Alessia
led LCSC with 12 kills
and 15 digs, while
Brittney Kubic had nine
kills, three blocks, and
hit .615 for the match.
Lisa Davis added 22
assists and three aces,
while Lindsay Scott had
15 digs and Katie
Hinrichs added 14 digs.
LCSC then overcame a
slow start to defeat
Whitworth. The Warriors
had 16 blocks in the
match, compared to four
for the Pirates.
Alessi led the Warriors
with 13 kills and 16
digs, while Kubic had 10
blocks and eight kills.
Anile Clemente added
seven kills, while Julie
Maciboba had six blocks.
Davis added 23 assists
and three aces, while
Mindy Meyer had 20
assists.
Scott led the way in
digs with 17, while
Hinrichs had 14.
Whitworth falls to 4-2
with the loss.
