LCSC volleyball team falls
to No. 8 College of Idaho
10-18-07
CALDWELL, Idaho – Playing a
somewhat flat match, the
Lewis-Clark State College
women’s volleyball team
quick found out why College
of Idaho is the No. 8 team
in the NAIA as the Coyotes
claimed their 13th straight
win with a 30-25, 30-23,
30-25 nonleague win over the
Warriors on Wednesday
night.
LCSC, 13-5, rallied in each
game after falling behind
early, but couldn’t sustain
the comeback as College of
Idaho (15-6) extended its
homecourt win streak to 32
with the win.
“They are a very good team
but I don’t think we came
out real inspired,” LCSC
coach Jen Greeny said.
“Hopefully we’ll play better
on Friday.”
The Warriors, who stand
second in the Frontier
Conference standings, take
on league-leading
Westminster in Salt Lake on
Friday. LCSC defeated
Westminster earlier in the
season and a win on Friday
would leave the teams tied
for the conference lead.
College of Idaho, which
changed its name from
Albertson College last week,
collected 16 blocks in the
match.
In the first game, LCSC
rallied to cut College of
Idaho’s lead to 25-24, but
the Coyotes rattled off five
of the final six points,
with Katie Hogue's service
ace ending the game. Game 2
saw the Coyotes hold a 15-14
edge, but a five-point push,
keyed by a pair of tandem
blocks, gave The C of I the
momentum to earn the win.
Game 3 was a see-saw affair,
as the Coyotes jumped out to
a 11-1 edge, only to see L-C
score 11 of the next 12
points to draw even. Tied
23-23 late, an Anne Parker
kill and a pair of Kathryn
Ely spikes capped a four
point push that closed out
the match.
L-C got 15 kills from Dana
Christiansen and 12 kills
and 11 digs from Anile
Clemente. Lindsay Scott led
all players with 22 digs.
Lisa Davis and Kim Fong had
17 assists apiece, while
Brittney Kubik had four
blocks.
