LCSC volleyball team signs
6-foot-1 middle hitter
Barrett
2-4-08
Two-time Northwest Athletic
Association of Community
Colleges all-North Region
selection Dani Barrett of
Whatcom Community College
has signed a
letter-of-intent to play for
the Lewis-Clark State
College volleyball team, the
Warrior coaching staff
announced Monday.
Barrett, who is from Port
Angeles, Wash., is a
6-foot-1 middle hitter and
will be a junior at LCSC
this fall.
Barrett helped her team to a
second-place in the NWAACC
last fall and led the
conference in blocks at 1.43
per game. She had 106
blocks, including 29 solo
blocks, last season.
Barrett also was a
three-time Northern Region
Offensive Player of the Week
during her two-year career
at Whatcom, earning the
honor twice as a freshman
and once last season. She
also made the conference’s
All-Academic Team both
seasons.
“We are very happy and feel
blessed to have Dani join
our LC volleyball family,”
LCSC assistant volleyball
coach Burdette Greeny said.
“She is a charismatic, hard
working, and talented
individual who is a great
fit for our team. Dani
possesses the length,
athleticism,
competitiveness, and
coachability that we
believe, will make her a
success during her career
here. We are excited to
have the opportunity to
maximize Dani’s skill set
and view her as someone who
can step in and help us in
the middle right away.
“Dani, along with fellow
signed recruits Abby Bruya
and Josi Lyman, represent a
solid core to this incoming
class. One that we believe
is high in character,
talent, and a team first
attitude that will mesh
wonderfully with our desired
program goals on and off the
court.”
Barrett attended Port
Angeles High and graduated
in 2006. She was the team
MVP all three years, and
earned First Team Narrows
League honors as a senior,
while being a second-team
selection as a junior. She
also received honorable
mention honors as a
sophomore.
The Warriors lost only two
seniors from last year’s
squad, which finished 26-8
overall and won both the
Frontier Conference regular
season and tournament
titles. LCSC also won the
Region I title and qualified
for the NAIA national
tournament in Columbia, Mo.
