L-C volleyball team adds first-team NJCAA
All-American

6-7-07

Cintia Alessi, a first-team National Junior College Athletic Association All-American, has signed a letter-of-intent to play volleyball for Lewis-Clark State College this fall, first-year Warrior coach Jen Greeny has announced.

Alessi, a 5-foot-9 outside hitter, led North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene to a fourth-place finish at last season’s NJCAA national tournament. She was named the Region 18 Player of the Year last season and was selected to the All-Region 18 first team her two years at NIC.

Alessi, who will be a junior eligibility-wise this fall, is from Curitiba, Brazil and was a former coach of a club team in Mt. Vernon, Wash.

In her first season at NIC, she played in 83 games and totaled 278 kills, 20 assists, 36 service aces, 39 blocks, and 298 digs. She ranked fourth in the Scenic West Athletic Conference for both kills and digs, and was 10th in hitting percentage.

Last year, she played in 142 games and totaled 450 kills, 20 assists, 74 service aces, 82 blocks, and 455 digs. She was third in assists and aces per game, fifth in the conference in hitting percentage, and sixth in kills per game as NIC finished 36-8 overall.

The Warriors will have an exhibition match against an alumni team on Aug. 25 and then open the 2007-08 season on Aug. 31-Sept. 1 in the Concordia Tournament at Portland.
