Warrior volleyball team
remains at No. 20 in NAIA
poll
11-14-07
The Lewis-Clark State
College women’s volleyball
team remained at No. 20 in
the final NAIA poll of the
season.
The Warriors went 3-0 last
week and won the Frontier
Conference Tournament title,
but stayed at the No. 20
spot as there wasn’t much
movement from the previous
week. Westminster, which
finished second in the
tournament, did manage to
climb from No. 24 to No. 22
in the final poll, which
will be used to determine
at-large berths to the
national tournament.
The national tournament will
consist of the 14 region
champions and 5-6 at-large
berths. Columbia University
of Missouri is the host for
the national tournament and
receives an automatic berth.
Columbia, which is ranked
No. 6 in the NAIA, must
participate in the regional
tournament and if it should
win its region, there would
be six at-large berths
available.
To qualify for nationals,
LCSC will have to win the
Region I Tournament, which
opens Thursday in Spokane.
LCSC is the third-ranked
team in Region I, following
No. 8 College of Idaho and
No. 10 Southern Oregon.
The top 13 spots in the NAIA
poll went unchanged from a
week ago. Fresno Pacific
kept the top spot, a
position it has held for 11
straight weeks, and is
followed by four other
Region II schools.
All regional tournaments
wrap up play on Saturday.
The 20-team field for the
national tournament will be
announced Sunday. The 28th
annual national tournament
takes place on Nov. 28-Dec.
