Warrior women roll past
Menlo College 70-42
ATHERTON, Calif. -
Mandy Troutt and
Breianna Gaines led a
balanced attack and the
Lewis-Clark State
College women's
basketball team again
used strong defensive
and rebounding efforts
to roll past Menlo
College 70-42 to win the
unofficial title in the
Menlo Classic on Sunday.
LCSC, which held the
University of
Concordia-Irvine to six
field goals and 18
points in the second
half during a 74-46 win
on Saturday, finished
the two-day tournament
with a 2-0 record.
Although the tournament
format was
pre-determined, the
Warriors were the only
team to finish
undefeated.
As on Saturday, LCSC
held Menlo to just 18
points in the second
half. The Warriors led
44-24 at halftime and
were never threatened in
the game.
LCSC, 7-2 overall, put
four players in double
figures. Troutt and
Gaines led the way with
14 points apiece. Kim
Preston added 11 and
joined Gaines with three
3-pointers in the game.
Sadie Short added 10
points.
Nine of the 11 Warriors
scored in the game and
collected at least one
steal. All 11 Warriors
had at least one rebound
as LCSC controlled the
boards with a 40-22
rebounding advantage.
The Warriors hit on
28-of-60 shots from the
field for. 46.7 percent,
and held Menlo, 2-2
overall, to just
16-of-54 shooting, 29.6
percent. Menlo also had
20 turnovers in the
game.
LCSC resumes action on
the road again next
weekend, taking on
Pacific University at
Forest Grove, Ore., next
Friday, and then Lewis &
Clark College in
Portland on Saturday.
