Barschig signs with LCSC
volleyball team
4-3-08
Caitlin
Barschig, a standout 6-foot
middle hitter at Mt. Spokane
High School in Spokane, has
signed a letter-of-intent to
play volleyball at
Lewis-Clark State College,
the Warrior volleyball
coaching staff announced on
Thursday.
Barschig lettered three
years at Mt. Spokane under
coach John Reid. She holds
the school record for blocks
in a match (13), kills in a
match (24), career solo
blocks (101), and career
kills (350).
During her senior season,
she was named the Team
Captain and Team MVP. She
was a first-team all-Greater
Spokane League selection and
earned honorable mention
All-State honors for the 3A
classification. She was an
honorable mention all-GSL
pick her junior season, and
won the team’s Most Improved
Award as a sophomore.
Barschig is currently
playing for the VIP U-18
Club Team in Spokane.
She is the daughter of Lori
and Carl Barschig. Her
father played tight end at
Washington State University
in the early 1970s and also
professionally with the
Atlanta Falcons. She plans
to major in Nursing at LCSC
and has a 3.80 GPA at Mt.
Spokane High.
“We are very excited to have
Caitlin join our LC
Volleyball family,” LCSC
assistant coach Burdette
Greeny said. “She owns a
great work ethic, contagious
enthusiasm, and a volleyball
game that seems to improve
each time she steps foot on
the court.
“Caitlin’s incremental
development in the Greater
Spokane League, which is
quite arguably, year in and
year out, the best high
school volleyball league in
the state, is quite
significant in our eyes. We
believe this progress will
only continue for her at the
collegiate level. Caitlin
fits what we are looking for
in players in our program –
intelligent, talented, and
high character individuals
who are winners on and off
the court.”
Barschig is the fourth
recruit to sign with LCSC
next season. The other three
are Colfax High setter Abby
Bruya, 6-foot-1 middle
hitter Dani Barrett of Port
Angeles, Wash., and 6-2
right-side hitter and setter
Josi Lyman of LaGrande,
Ore.
The Warriors open the 2008
season on Aug. 22-23 in the
LCSC Tournament at the LCSC
Activity Center.
