LCSC volleyball team adds Colfax’s Lazzarini

05-20-08

The Lewis-Clark State College women’s volleyball team added another recruit from the Colfax High state championship team with the addition of 5-foot-11 outside hitter Sadie Lazzarini (left) for this fall.

Lazzarini joins Colfax High setter Abby Bruya as two of the seven recruits signed by the Warrior coaching staff for the fall. Six of the seven recruits are freshmen, while one is a junior college transfer.

Lazzarini was part of six state championship teams at Colfax, including three in basketball and three in volleyball. She also is a standout softball player for the Bulldogs.

LCSC coach Jennifer Greeny said she talked with Lazzarini about joining the team in February and was excited the all-around athlete decided to join the Warriors.

With Sadie being a multi-sport athlete, she had the opportunity to pursue three different sports in college,” Greeny said.  “Sadie decided volleyball is the sport she wants to play and we are thrilled she chose us as the program she wants to play it in.”

As a freshman at Colfax, Lazzarini played all three sports and earned second-team all-Northeast A League honors in softball as well as winning a state basketball title. She won state titles in volleyball and basketball as a sophomore and junior, and also was a first-team all-league selection in softball both years. As a junior, she also was a first team all-league and all-state performer in volleyball.

As a senior, she earned first-team all-state, all-league, and all-Palouse honors as the team again won the state title.  She earned second-team all-state honors in basketball and was captain and league MVP during the softball season.

“She is a winner and is used to winning,” Greeny said.  “We really like that Sadie is a hard worker and is competitive.  Because of her commitment to playing three sports in high school and never playing club volleyball, we believe there is a high ceiling in Sadie’s future volleyball development.”

Lazzarini joins Bruya, 5-foot-11 outside hitter Lauryn Herrick of Cypress, Calif., Kootenai High’s 5-11 outside hitter Hannah Nyrop, Mt. Spokane High 6-0 middle hitter Caitlin Barschig, 6-1 middle hitter Dani Barrett of Port Angeles, Wash., and 6-2 right-side hitter and setter Josi Lyman of LaGrande, Ore.

In Greeny’s first year, the Warriors were picked to finish sixth in the Frontier Conference, but won the league’s regular-season and tournament titles, and then also won the Region I Tournament. LCSC was seeded ninth at the national tournament and finished with a 26-8 record.
