LCSC
volleyball program signs
final recruit in Herrick
04-22-08
LEWISTON, Idaho – The
Lewis-Clark State College
women’s volleyball team
wrapped up its recruiting
efforts for the forthcoming
season by signing Lauryn
Herrick, a 5-foot-11 outside
hitter from Cypress, Calif.,
to a letter-of-intent to
play for the Warriors this
fall.
Herrick is the sixth recruit
signed by the Warrior
coaching staff this spring.
The five join a solid
nucleus of returners from
last year’s squad, which won
the Frontier Conference
regular season and
tournament titles, as well
as the Region I title.
Herrick played at Cypress
High School where she was a
four-year starter in
volleyball, and also was on
the soccer and track teams
for two seasons. During her
freshman season, her team
made it to the first round
of the CIF playoffs and
received the Gatorade Award.
She earned all-Empire League
honors and the Coaches Award
during her sophomore year as
the team again made the
first round of the CIF
playoffs.
As a junior, Herrick, earned
all-league honors, was the
Team MVP, Team Captain, and
earned the Best Offensive
Award. Her team also made it
to the second round of the
state playoffs.
During her senior season
last fall, she was the CIF
SS Division III Player of
the Year, the Empire League
MVP, Team MVP, Team Captain,
and won the coaches Award.
She also was named as a
Player to Watch by the
Orange County Register.
Cypress High also won the
Empire League title and
captured the CIF SS Division
III crown for the first time
in school history. The team
finished with a 32-2 record,
also the best in school
history.
“We are very excited to add
Lauryn Herrick to our
roster,” LCSC assistant
coach Burdette Greeny said.
“After Jen (LCSC head coach
Jennifer Greeny) went to the
300 team Las
Vegas tourney
in mid-February, she had
Lauryn rated as our top
choice for what we felt, was
a deep and talented pool of
outside hitter recruits we
were corresponding with.
“Lauryn owns a live arm, an
ability to make a wide range
of shots, and a solid all
around fundamental game.
She is consistent and
minimizes errors both
offensively and defensively
– both attributes that are
highly valued in our
program. Something that
stood out to us was Lauryn’s
maturity on and off the
court. There is a calmness
about her that no doubt has
and will benefit her when
tough situations arise.”
Herrick also plays for the
Mizuno Long Beach (18
Runbird) club team, which
has qualified for the Junior
Olympics in Dallas on June
26-July 5.
“Lauryn’s experience playing
for a quality club program
like Mizuno Long Beach and
attaining the personal and
team achievements in her
high school career stand as
reasons why we believe we
have signed someone who can
be a special player here,”
Burdette Greeny said.
Herrick is the daughter of
Jeanna and Joe Herrick and
has a brother Hunter and a
sister Maddison. She plans
to major in graphic design
at LCSC.
Herrick is the sixth recruit
to sign with LCSC next
season. The others are
Kootenai High’s 5-11 outside
hitter Hannah Nyrop, Mt.
Spokane High 6-0 middle
hitter Caitlin Barschig,
Colfax High setter Abby
Bruya, 6-1 middle hitter
Dani Barrett of Port
Angeles, Wash., and 6-2
right-side hitter and setter
Josi Lyman of LaGrande,
Ore. Barrett is the only
non-freshman as the junior
college transfer will be a
junior this fall.
“Our 2008 recruiting class
is now set, complete with
all five signed freshman
voted as team captains on
their respective state
qualifying teams this past
year,” Burdette Greeny
said. “This is significant
to us. These young women
are leaders equipped with
the capability to lead by
word and example on and off
the court. We are thrilled
to have people of this
quality join our family.”
