Westmont defeats Northwest University 3-0

LEWISTON, Idaho – Beth Widicus had a match-high 12 kills, including two during a key stretch of the second game, to help Westmont College defeat Northwest University 25-21, 25-19, 25-20 in the opening match of the Holiday Inn Express women’s volleyball tournament at the Lewis-Clark State College Activity Center on Friday afternoon.

Widicus helped Westmont erase a 14-11 deficit in the second game when the Warriors scored eight consecutive points to take control of the game. Alison Sharp added eight kills, while Katelyn Lowry had seven for the Warriors, who trailed early in each game but put together strong runs for the win.

Madeleine Krahn led Northwest with nine kills in the season-opening match for both teams. Lauren Holtz added eight kills.

Both teams will be in action later Friday in the five-team round-robin tournament. Westmont will meet Concordia of Oregon at 4 p.m., while Northwest squares off against Corban at 6 p.m.  The tournament concludes on Saturday.
