Westmont withstands Corban

Sharp led five players in
double figure kills to help
Westmont College hold off
upset-minded Corban College
23-25, 25-11, 22-25, 29-27,
15-7 in the second day of
the Holiday Inn Express
women's volleyball
tournament at the
Lewis-Clark State College
Activity Center on Saturday
afternoon.
Westmont, which received
votes in the first NAIA Top
25 poll of the season,
needed its balanced attack
to subdue Corban, which went
0-3 in the five-team
round-robin tournament.
Westmont, 2-1, can earn a
share of the tourney title
with a win over host
Lewis-Clark State in
Saturday's final match at 6
p.m.
Sharp finished with a
match-high 16 kills, while
Katie Sharp added 12 and
Jenise DeBie 11. Samantha
Miller and Katelyn Lowry
added 10 kills each. Alison
Sharp also had 20 digs.
Tiffany Land was the only
Corban player in double
figure kills with 13. In
all, Westmont had 78 kills,
compared to 43 for Corban,
but Westmont also had 33
errors and was outblocked
9-3.
The tournament is the
opening matches of the
season for both teams.
